The Pieters Laboratory
Alessandro Vacchini–Postdoc
Alessandro is originally from Milan, Italy, where he studied Biology. During his Ph.D. in Experimental Pathology and Neuropathology at the University of Milan, Alessandro continued working on his Masters’ thesis project studying chemokine receptor signaling gaining expertise in protein-protein interaction techniques and gene editing. At the end of his Ph.D. in 2016, he moved to the Department of Biomedicine (DBM) in Basel to characterize the metabolite self-antigens recognized by a sub-population of T lymphocytes called MR1T. This gave him the opportunity to learn about immunology, T cells, antigen presentation and metabolic alterations. Alessandro joined the lab in June 2024 to understand the role of coronin protein family members in health and disease.
